Anyone aged over 17 years old interested in taking up climbing can gain the skills and insight they need to get started. This course is designed to teach you the skills required to register yourself as a competent climber and to use the wall unsupervised.
This course lasts 4 hours either split over two weeks on the same day of the week (eg. Monday week 1 and Monday week 2) or over one weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Customers must ensure that they can attend both sessions scheduled for the course when booking as no refund will be given in the event that a cancellation of the second session is made.
If you have a group of aspirant climbers (2 people and above) interested in learning to climb then please contact reception for more information on private Learn to Climb courses.

Once you’ve got the basics mastered you’ll want to start lead climbing - find a friend and we’ll teach you how! This course lasts 3 hours, split into 2 1.5 hour sessions. We supply all the necessary equipment, including ropes. Participants should have prior indoor climbing experience confidently climbing 5+ or above (this allows you to focus on the technicalities of lead climbing without concern of the difficulty of climbing).
If you have a partner and neither of you can make the scheduled course then please contact reception for more information on making a private Learn to Lead climb booking.

All prospective participants on the NICAS levels 2 and 3 clubs should have completed at least level 1 of the NICAS scheme.
The National Indoor Climbing Achievements Scheme (NICAS) is a nationally recognised award that focusses on profficiency and development of climbing skills and ability. The NICAS clubs require registration with the NICAS scheme for the relevant levels before attendance (available at reception). As these are a developmental club they operate on a block booking basis typically for 4 weeks. Don't worry; if you miss the chance to book on a NICAS block there are Drop in Clubs operating along side them with the only difference that there will not be a formulated week on week development; instead the Drop in Clubs cater for those climbers that may not be able to attend week on week.

The Improvers Drop in Clubs offer an intermediate session for those aged between 8 and 17. Participants should be proficient in tying in and belaying and able to ascend the wall confidently. If you wish to work to a certified scheme and develop your climbing then we recommend registering with NICAS and booking on the NICAS clubs.

If you are aged between 14 and 17 with previous climbing experience then the Leading club will provide you with that next step in developing your climbing. Participants should have either completed levels 1 to 3 of NICAS or have substantial climbing experience confidently climbing grade 5+ or above indoors (please ask one of our climbing instructors for guidance). This club operates as one entity for both NICAS and non NICAS participants and therfore allows drop in entry.
Since Lead climbing and Lead belaying are inherantly mroe dangerous than bottom rope climbing (what all our other clubs offer); Parents/guradians should make themselves familiar with these risks as they will be required to give consent for such activities before the junior can participate. Those aged 16 or over do not require parental consent but must still provide consent. All information on risks and consent forms are available from Transition Extreme.
